New Speedy Gonzales Movie in Development at Warner Bros

Warner Bros Developing New Speedy Gonzales Movie
Warner Bros. continues to explore new ways to expand its classic cartoon franchises. One project attracting attention involves the iconic Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzales movie
The famous cartoon mouse first appeared in the Looney Tunes series. He quickly became known as “the fastest mouse in all Mexico.” Over the decades, the character gained a large fanbase around the world.
Now the studio is once again developing a feature film based on Speedy Gonzales.
Earlier Live-Action Plans
The idea of a Speedy Gonzales movie is not new. In 2010, Warner Bros began developing a live-action and CGI hybrid film based on the character.
Comedian George Lopez joined the project to voice Speedy. The studio also hired writers to create the script and develop the story.
However, the film never moved into full production. Development slowed down and the project eventually stalled.
Another Attempt at an Animated Film
A few years later, Warner Bros tried again with a new animated movie. Actor Eugenio Derbez signed on to voice Speedy Gonzales in that version.
Despite early development work, that project also struggled to move forward. Eventually the studio placed the film on hold.
Industry reports suggested that concerns about stereotypes surrounding the character may have complicated development. At the same time, many fans defended Speedy Gonzales and celebrated the character’s clever personality and heroic role in the original cartoons.
A New Speedy Gonzales Movie in Development
More recently, Warner Bros revived the project with a fresh creative approach. Filmmaker Jorge R. Gutiérrez has joined the new film as director and developer.
Gutiérrez previously created the animated film The Book of Life, which drew praise for its visual style and cultural storytelling.
The new Speedy Gonzales project is expected to be fully animated rather than live-action. Warner Bros hopes the film will introduce the classic character to a new generation of viewers.
The Future of Looney Tunes Films
Warner Bros continues to invest in the Looney Tunes brand across film and television. The studio believes the characters still hold strong global appeal.
As development moves forward, fans remain eager to see how Speedy Gonzales will return to the big screen.
For now, the project remains in early development, but excitement continues to grow as Warner Bros works to bring the fastest mouse in Mexico back to cinemas.
